Tonight is the night when witches fly on their brooms. Cats and bats are all around. Goblins and ghosts are behind every corner. And who wouldn't love to snuggle up to a ghost like this one on a night like this?
Sorry to say, this isn't Animan's equipment. A good friend sent me this picture in an e-mail yesterday, so I thought I should share it with the world. That was a nice thing you wrote in your message :D
I've always loved that particular Disney Cartoon, especially since Donald was my favorite of the Main Disney cast-- a flawed, slightly selfish, not too saccharine sweet, and all too human duck. Also, I've always had a "thing" for witches ever since childhood, growing up watching "Bewitched" with Elisabeth Montgomery, Agnes Moorehead, Paul Lynde, and the two 'Dicks'...(York & Seargent). Especially with the show's pro-gay parallels drawn about witches: both those that are covert (Samantha has to "come out" as a witch to her husband on their honeymoon, forcing Darrin to make the choice--out of his love for her--to live in the 'broom' closet. Not to mention all the 'witch-culture' jargon which goes over the heads of the mortals not in the know. Along with Sam's family's distain for the "ignorant, narrow-minded, bigoted, middle-class, mentality" of which Endora rails against) and those that are overt (Dick Seargent, Paul Lynde, Maurice Evans, Agnes Moorehead, and one of the Tabitha's, who were gay in real life). In keeping with my favorite creatures of the supernatural (vampires?, zombies?, bleagh!! Give me a witch any day!), here's a 1980's cartoon containing quite a few subtle gay 'Easter-eggs', enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekf4rFhbxj4
Witches do have a certain "something" that many of us find appealing. "Bewitched" is one of my favorite TV shows, because the main story is so full of possibilities. This cartoon "Witches' Night Out" looks very much like the kind of thing they did for TV in the 1970's--they tried to make it look as un-Disney as possible, so that's where the strange character designs and odd action come from. By making characters all one color, the cels were easier (and faster!) to paint. And, '70's TV cartoons in the U.S.A. had a LOT of dialogue going on! This cartoon is loads of fun, and sort of like a time capsule back to that time. Thanks for sending the link!
