And inside is an article about Walt Disney's animated feature in production at the time, "The Three Caballeros". This article explains how the Disney animators were able to make Donald Duck dance the samba with Aurora Miranda (Carmen Miranda's sister). In some scenes, she acted, danced and sang in front of a projected image. In other scenes, the animators added drawings of Donald Duck and José Carioca in front of her. You can watch it here.....
And then read all about it here!

This is all really fascinating, even though I'm no animator myself. But I do subscribe to this magazine, and I can see a great deal of change over the decades on the style, subject material, and even writing forms. Granted, I'm probably much more interested in the question posed on the cover about robot warfare. Almost makes the magazine more sci-fi than science in those days!
ReplyDeleteIt's always fascinating to see old magazines, especially from a special period of history, such as WWII. We can look at the pages and it's a whole different world--what people are mainly focused on is pretty much there to see, and it can be surprising.
DeleteWith Animan's software, showing animated characters interacting with live-action actors is a piece of cake, although it still has to be all planned out. But it's no longer the technical nightmare outlined in this article!
