Random Photos in the City

This is the roundabout at Areeiro, just a few minutes' walk from where I was staying. It's a convenient location, thanks to the metro station here.
Portugal is known for its "azulejos" (blue painted tiles), but these are more colorful, and rather unusual.
Who needs poles for street signs, when you can just announce them on the corner building?
This building looks similar to the house Rudolph Valentino lived in, in the olden days of Hollywood.
The Portuguese have a creatively playful approach to the way they present their pavements.
Statues designed with those beautiful blue skies in mind...

  1. Stunning pictures Animan! You must be having an absolute blast! Glad you got to take such an amazing vacation! I wouldn't be surprised if we get treated to a Portuguese inspired toon in the near future!

    1. I really did have a great time, just walking around the city and taking pictures. And I only scratched the surface—there’s so much more great scenery just waiting for me to come back and discover it. An Animan toon featuring Portugal is definitely something I’d like to work on!

    2. You know, I think there's just something about Europeans. They really do it right, you know? It's like they discovered the secret.

  2. Thanks for all the pix. Really takes me back to the quiet elegance of that little country sticking out in the sea.

    1. It’s so easy to see why people visit this land and fall in love with it at first sight. I know I did!

  3. Your next tour must be my country Italy. Only problem, one city at a time. Tony

    2. Go to Catania(my home town) and visit Mt. Etna(you will pass by Nicolosi, my ancestral hometown) then Palermo. Then head north to Rome, Florence, Pisa, and of course Milano. I hear Torino is very beautiful, never been there though.

    4. Yes dear friend you are right. If you can travel you should. It makes you more open minded and mindful, of how others live. Of course living in Japan has surely done that to you already. Japan one country that really is exotic physically and psychologically. So I conclude by saying Sayonara to you and all your friends, followers... What is more Japanese than that ? Obviously a lot more, silly me!!!

    5. Living in a foreign country has been good for me. Every day, I learn something new and unexpected. One thing about Japan—they are very good to their customers, and do a great job with customer service. As a vendor of my work, I can honestly say that I’ve done my best to follow their example. I haven’t always been able to bat 100, but I’ve done what I could.

  4. Not sure if you can land directly at Catania airport. The US Navy has the Siconella Base over there. Try it. In any case if you land in Rome or Milan you can catch a flight to Catania and/r Palermo. Buona Fortuna, good luck!!!
