Animation Tip #4

A lot of Animan's friends have asked how animation is drawn. Before I started drawing animation using a Wacom tablet and animation software, I had a homemade light table, and I learned to draw animation on paper.
One technique I still use is "The Inbetween Method", and you can see here how it works. Basically, you plan the beginning and the ending of the action, and then make drawings for the action inbetween.

  1. Grand post! I'd love if you could teach us how to make a homemade light box someday, sure others would appreciate it too!

    1. I used the light table example to explain the principle of seeing three different levels of paper at the same time. Do I recommend using a light table for an individual animator? Nope! Check out my latest post, "Animation Tip #5" to see why!
