Dropbox Blues

Animan has received e-mails from people who say they have trouble downloading the video files from Sendspace. I know myself, that I couldn't download them directly into a mobile device.

So, when Animan is at home, and has access to his computer, he has been sending the vids via Dropbox.

Some people love Dropbox, and others prefer the Sendspace links. It seems to depend on the individual computers and users.

A friend wanted to download a vid into a mobile device, so I recommended Dropbox. This friend installed Dropbox, but has not been able to view the video file for some reason...

If anyone out in Animan's World has any advice about this, please let us hear from you!  Thanks!!
Another thing about Dropbox--when you get the shared folder, you should download the file to your own device, and not just watch it from the shared folder. The best way is to go to Dropbox.com the website, and download it there.

  1. I got the .mov to play in dropbox, I just had to be patient. It has to load. I tested the preview, which is only about 30mb, and the full movie is 315 mb. So it might take much longer.

  2. Welcome. My test was done using the DropBox App on my iPhone, and playing it within the DropBox app. If you want to play it on your mobile device like a movie, then download it to your computer, and load it into iTunes, and sync it like a movie to your phone and run it from the movie app. Other brands of phone can do the same using whatever you sync with.

    1. I had a quick look around woofytales.com and it looks mighty intriguing! There's a lot of great art work there to discover, and I'm sure a lot of Animan's friends would definitely be interested!

  4. Depending on the device, it might not recognise/support the video file. For example, Android devices don't support .MOV files by default.

Now, despite the .MOV format being an Apple format, I don't think either the iPad or iPhone will play it. Instead, the file has to be converted into a special format playable only on iPad and iPhone (I think it might be a special kind of MP4). This can be done using a program called Handbrake, a free video converter that includes settings for both the iPad and the iPhone. Same goes for WMV...being a Windows format that one will definitely need to be converted.

With the Android, it's much easier. Unlike the iPhone, you can download new video players for Android that replace the stock one. I personally recommend the VLC Beta app, which is an Android version of VLC and as such plays most filetypes (including WMV and MOV).

    Hopefully that should help.
