Devastating
Recently, friends have alerted me to websites which are showing Big Beach Adventure in its entirety. Animan videos are copyrighted, and only Animan can post them. I have sent e-mails to these sites asking them to remove my copyrighted work--all have been ignored. I'm utterly powerless.Animan works hard, drawing the videos, 30 frames per second. He checks his e-mail from 1 to 12 times per hour, to make sure that the Animan video you have bought reaches you. He is totally dedicated to Animan's World. And, he must work at other jobs outside the home, to pay the rent and keep food on the table, just as we all do.
Now he has a new job. Policing the internet, trying to get pirates to stop giving away his hard work. Although I am amazed that people are lying and stealing for Animan's work, it's just one more worry to deal with. Unfortunately, drawing the cartoons and following up the video orders is a full-time job.
If you've ever wondered why more animators aren't trying to sell their stuff over the net, this is the reason why. They're afraid they'll knock themselves out, and then get ripped off and stabbed in the back. It's an unhappy situation.

I'm sorry that this happened to you, Animan. I know I've said this before, but seeing all the hard work and talent that goes into animating even a minute of one of your videos is why I not only love, "use", and enjoy you work, but I respect it as well. I know you haven't pointed any fingers, but I can assure you of my deep annoyance at this. I can only hope your real fans are supportive enough for you to not give up! Where else could I find such big, meaty, manly-men realize just how great and non-stigmatizing it really can be to get fucked? So far, you're our only hope!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sam. Your kind words fell on my eyes like cool drops of rain on burning sands. Not to worry, the REAL fans of Animan are very supportive. And over 99% of Animan's fans are also friends, too. We help each other out.
DeleteEvery "$7.00" I see in my inbox comes from a friendly, generous person who trusts me to deliver the goods. That person wants to be a part of Animan's World, and is honestly knocking on my door. What's not to love?
I realize how corny all this sounds, but Animan is a corny guy! People are basically good to Animan, and I appreciate it down to my toes.
As long as Animan can afford to make the videos, he will--and the guys will be big and meaty, and they'll have that big need, up front as well as back there!
so sorry to read this dude.....you are amazing animator and sorry people do this to you....all that time and work and the minimal compensation you ask.....
ReplyDeleteIt was difficult for me to post this topic--how does one inform people of something so miserable without sounding like a martyr?
DeleteI'm too lucky, too blessed with thousands of supporters and fans who are kind and warm-hearted--I'm too darn fortunate to let the creeps get to me.
I was deeply touched by your kind e-mail, and I thank you most respectfully.
What the hell! Pirating anything really pisses me off! Wether its music movies or your videos its not on! Im sorry to hear this but just know that there are alot of people out there supporting you 100%. Love your videos animan and thankyou for making them. They are seriously fun :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for being in Animan's camp! I am always aware of the good supportive friends who have given so much to Animan. Thank you for reminding me!
DeleteWhole SITES?! And of course those people won't answer you. They don't feel that they have to. In order to see results you have to go after their hosts. If the the blog is on Tumblr - that's who you talk to. If it's on blogspot? That's who you talk to. If it's a .com you either find the host server or - if they are their own host you tell them directly - I will sue you for illegally pirating this copyrighted video. People disappear but hosts rarely do (and if they did then your problem would be solved).
ReplyDeleteThe other thing you may have to do is what other creators do, and I think I've discussed this with you before - just fundraising for each film. You know how much you usually get on average by now. So you set the target amount for that - and once that amount is reached - you release the film freely. That's what they did for Sugar Shooter 2 and a few other electronic things.
Although they are always talking about antipiracy measures on FurAffinity because there are so many indie creators over there and...sadly some people just believe that while they have more than enough money to buy anything their heart desires - they don't believe that ARTISTS or any other kind of creator should get anything. Those people are straight up thieves and yet they will give you every excuse in the book to moralize what they do because they see no value in artists or creators and they think we can be easily replaced.
But I'm surprised you were able to last this long without an issue. Most companies have to figure in losses to their electronic product - because someone somewhere is going to steal and share it eventually. Class Comics has to deal with it all the time. Anywho, I wouldn't go about policing things if you can't. Like, if you can't find the hosts to complain - you may have to leave it be and just plan for a better future. Because it's stress you don't need.
Very eloquently put, Jubell! :)
DeleteI have caught some A-holes doing this on a site and managed to contact the webmasters and flagged them down to have them ultimately removed from the site due to uploading without your authorization/permission so, Animan, just know that there's someone (Me) keeping an eye out for that. I know your material is copyrighted and make it a point that when I visit other sites where clips can be uploaded by the public, I contact the administrators and convince them that the posters are performing copyright infringement. So, far, I've managed to remove several clips from different users pirating your material.
ReplyDeleteI'm entirely on your defense because I truly admire what you do and the entertainment you provide.
Animan is in your debt. And I think I can speak for all the wonderful guys out there who are true, supportive friends of Animan, when I say "thank you" for your efforts. :)
DeletePlaying devil's advocate for a second with a question: is it possible that you might recoup even a small amount of lost revenue by putting your older work on sale, like maybe to help promote your latest video? Not saying pirating is right (hell no), but pricing one or two videos at $3-5 might be what stops a few pirates who are on the fence from stealing the movie outright and paying you at least something for your trouble.
ReplyDeleteUnder consideration! Thank you for thinking of Animan. :)
DeleteI am so sorry for all that is happening to you and your wonderful work. It is an unfortunate reality of the internet. There will be those people who are self-serving and don't care how they obtain what they want. I don't visit to many websites due to fear of viruses and so forth but I have not really seen any of your work anywhere, yet! But If I do, I will report it to the webmaster of that website to take it down. :)
ReplyDeleteI greatly appreciate your kind message! I do feel hesitant to post things of this negative nature on Animan's World--after all, who wants to read a blog that's depressing?
DeleteI felt that the situation should be clarified, without going into too much detail.
But some good has come from it. Dear friends and fans have expressed their support and concern, and have even done what they could for Animan's cause. I am just overwhelmed at the tremendous outpouring of good will that is out there. I am counting my blessings, every moment--and I never forget the goodness I have received.
Thank you, very much for your help. I am more grateful than I can express. :)
I'm thinking there is plenty of inspiration for upcoming stories on Ms Thunderpussy's website...! Army... construction workers... :)
ReplyDeleteThat same thought occurred to Animan! I can't browse those pictures without thinking, "What beautiful creatures we men are!"
DeleteHello Animan,
ReplyDeleteI'm truly sorry to hear that this has happened to you. Your videos are very unique and are worth way more than the humble $7 that you charge for them in my opinion. That being said, 4 days ago I placed an order for "Carmen" and I still have not received an e-mail giving me the link of the video. I have received my paypal receipt for the purchase, but no video link. I'm really looking forward to seeing this video please check your e-mail so that I may receive my download link. I also wish you the best in having your issue resolved.
Oh no---I'm so SORRY! Please send me an e-mail with your name, e-mail address, and the date you purchased the video. I promise to send it right off to you the moment I get your reply.
Delete(Thanks for the kind words of encouragement, BTW---I really need them right now...)
When are we going to get a sneak-peek? I'm going crazy with anticipation for your next video!!!
ReplyDeleteAniman has uploaded 3 pictures from the video. Hope you like them!
DeleteAniman,
ReplyDeleteWe know that you, and not some automatic system, attend personally the order. So, have you thought of "personalizing" each video you send?
For example: Hidden in frame XXX, unknown to everybody except yourself, putting an individual code/ref./number so you will automatically know who is the person that originally bought the film.
Also perhaps at the start/end, put a message "Copy bought by ..." with your signature and a number like in the Limited Editions.
I have actually thought about this very thing. For friends who have bought the videos as DVDs, it is possible to personalize it with a signature. But even putting in a special frame with a code number for every video downloaded would be a laborious task of monumental proportions!
DeleteAlso, not everyone who buys an Animan video is anxious for the purchase to be documented. Many buyers prefer anonymity, for various personal reasons.
I hope that in the future, some sort of ID system per video can be easily implemented. However, at the present time, your wonderful idea is probably not as practical as I'd like. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with Animan's friends! :D
Hi.
ReplyDeleteNoticed that the Lex video has made it on to pornhub.com.
