I hope that all the friends of Animan are enjoying the New Year, and that 2013 will be a wonderful year for all of us! Here's another background sketch.
I always try to give my videos a sense of "place". That's an important part of the fantasy. Sometimes, an exotic location or a comfortable room brings out the beast in us guys. Last time, we had Super Hero and his friends sowing their wild oats (and lots of them) in a New York City back alley....so this time, we're in a quiet house in suburbia. Animan likes variety and contrast!
Very 1950's post-war room layout, Animan. There are some Perry Mason episodes that I saw recently that illustrate how middle class families at that time lived with almost about half of the furniture we have today.
I did have a question about the lighted oval in the center of both backgrounds. Is this an animator's technique for light play to eliminate re-drawing of cast shadows?
I think that in the 1950's, middle class families had a minimum of clutter in the house, and concentrated more on making their front and back yards beautiful! Record players or TVs and their speakers were enclosed in cabinets, so there wasn't all that wiring spilling out all over the place as we have now.
The lighted oval is actually the opposite--it's an oval-shaped shadow around the edges. It produces a spotlight effect on the actors, but it's done with sharp edges to give it that "retro" look. When used consistently in all the scenes, it unifies the total look and adds another layer of interest. It can also be done with a rectangular or triangular shape.
Happy New Year :-)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what's going to happen in that nice looking room... So many possibilities!
If those walls could only talk.....and the sofa, too!
DeleteThat's a nice interior scene. It's looking Real Good. Happy New Year, Animan!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you, my Friend!
DeleteYou really know how to set up the scene, it looks inviting, like something is about to happen.
ReplyDeleteAwesome Animan!
